Edmonds Night Out: A Sweet Celebration of Community
There’s something truly special about a summer evening spent in Edmonds, and this week’s National Night Out was a perfect reminder of what makes our city shine: its people.
I had the opportunity to visit several neighborhoods across Edmonds, and I was struck by the strong sense of community on every block. New neighbors were meeting long-time residents—some who’ve lived in the same home for over 30 years! Arms waved as people pointed out where they live, kids played in the street, and conversations flowed easily about the things that matter most to our neighbors. It was exactly the kind of evening that reminds me why I love this town.
Of course, I couldn’t show up empty-handed. (Thanks, Mom!) I brought along Salish-made chocolate chip cookies to share—a little treat to help celebrate the sweet moments that happen when we come together.
From live music to delicious food, every stop had its own vibe, but one thing was consistent: Edmonds is full of people who care. I was especially grateful for the chance to speak with members of the Edmonds Police Department and Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, including our new Police Chief, Loi Dawkins. We had an honest conversation about the role of law enforcement in our city and the importance of supporting our officers while also building trust and safety in every neighborhood.
As I’ve shared before, Public Safety is a foundational priority for me. It’s what allows everything else we love—our parks, small businesses, festivals, schools, and waterfront—to thrive. Supporting our first responders and ensuring they have the resources and training they need is essential to keeping Edmonds the safe, vibrant city we call home.
But public safety also starts with strong neighborhoods. That’s why I’ll continue doorbelling and attending community events in the months ahead. If your neighborhood is hosting a gathering or you’d like to introduce me to your block, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to come by, listen, and learn more about the ideas and opportunities you see for Edmonds’ future.
Because when neighbors come together, great things happen.
And Edmonds deserves nothing less.
